It was a day of comebacks for the Selma 14-year-olds Dixie Boys baseball

team Thursday, as they rallied for a pair of wins in their District 4

Tournament at the Baseball and Softball Complex.

The Selma All-Stars saved their biggest rally for last, as they scored 11

unanswered runs and pulled off a 12-11 win over the Demopolis All-Stars to

claim the tournament title.

“This is a great bunch of kids with a lot of heart,” Selma head coach Mark

Rouleau said after his team overcame an 11-1 deficit with the help of an

eight-run third inning.

Teravious Mitchell, who had not started a game on the mound for Selma this

season, pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the victory.

Mitchell was aided by some sparkling Selma defense in the top of the seventh

inning. With Selma hanging on by a run, Mitchell surrendered a leadoff walk

to Drew Stuart and double to Scott Cannon that put runners on second and

third with no one out. But third baseman Blake Robinson fielded a grounder

and threw low to first baseman Justin Brown, holding the runners. Mitchell

then induced Chris Whitaker to ground back to the mound, then struck out

Kyle Stephens to end the game.

“T-Ray pitched a great game,” Rouleau said of Mitchell. “We left him in

there as long as we did because we want to give everyone a chance.”
