MYRTLEWOOD – Burglars didn’t stay on the lam long after burglarizing the Myrtlewood Convenience Store early Friday morning.

Marengo County Sheriff Jesse Langley said two juveniles and Darren Ray Abston, 29, all from Washington County broke into the store shortly after midnight and have been apprehended and charged in the incident.

“It’s nice to solve one,” Langley said “We got lucky and did some good police work.”

He said sheriff’s investigators located some of the missing items in nearby woods and were able to tie those items to the suspects, which he said had been seen hanging around the store for several days prior to the burglary.

It wasn’t the first case of the week with a good ending for sheriff’s deputies.

The department are continuing to investigate a kidnapping case that ended when kidnappee escaped from a car’s trunk in Sumter County.

Cory Davis ended up in Michael Perry’s trunk Tuesday night after the pair had been riding around, Langley said.

“Suposedly, Perry pulled a gun on Cory at some point,” he said.

Langley said Perry got Davis out of the trunk and later pulled to a convenience store where Davis ran away.

“That’s the story we’ve got right now,” Langley said.

Davis had not signed a warrant against

Perry as of Friday.
