Hale County now accepting applications for funding

The Hale County School System is accepting applications for State At-Risk Funds Designated for Participation of Non-Profit, Non-Governmental Community Agencies. As a result of the system’s current needs assessments, the proposal should address reading enrichment activities for grades K through 8 for summer and/or after school programs. In developing proposals, agencies should consider that funds may be distributed among more than one agency. Seniors to be honored at banquet

Braxton Senior Day Care Center will hold their Ninth Annual Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Demopolis Civic Center. The speaker will be Joan Carter, state president of AARP. Canebrake Players holding auditions

The beloved story of little Ralphie’s attempt to get a BB gun for Christmas comes to the Demopolis stage this holiday season when the Canebrake Players presents “A Christmas Story.” Auditions for the production will be held Sunday, Sept. 25, at 2 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. in the Old School Theater on Main Avenue. “You’ll put your eye out, kid,” the line made famous in the movie, “A Christmas Story,” will weave throughout the play, written by Jean Shepherd. Director Jan Wilburn is looking for four adults – two men and two women in their 30s – and several students who can portray children from the age of 10 to 13. She also needs high school boys not only to serve as stage crew but to have small roles on stage as well. Four performances of “A Christmas Story” are planned: Nov. 18 and 21 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 20 and Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. For more information, contact Wilburn at 289-1931.

Little Miss COTR applications now available

Applications are now available for the Little Miss Christmas on the River Pageant. This pageant is for girls kindergarten through third grade. Girls must be 5 years old to be in the pageant. Final Answer to perform

The First Christian Church of Demopolis will sponsor a concert featuring Final Answer Sept. 11, at 6 p.m., followed by a finger food dinner. The concert is part of Loyalty Month activities.

Bible classes to be held at Christian Chapel

The Birmingham Theological Seminary in Birmingham will hold classes from Sept. 12 through Dec. 16 at Christian Chapel Baptist Church in Demopolis. Classes on Bible Interpretation will be Tuesday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. and classes on New Testament I will be from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m.

UWA offers Basic Photo at Demopolis Campus

The University of West Alabama is adding a course to the scheduled offerings at the Demopolis Higher Education Center. Basic Photography will be taught by Joe Turner beginning on Sept. 13. Bring a Friend Sunday

The First Christian Church of Demopolis will have its annual church picnic Sept. 18 at Foscue Park at the upper pavilion directly following services. Trinity Episcopal to hold charity art show and sale

Sept. 23 and 24 are the dates for the Art Show and Sale to be held at Trinity Episcopal parish hall in Demopolis. The preview sale will be Friday, Sept. 23, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The main sale will be Saturday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Lunch will be catered by George Bley and available for sale from 11 a.m. Area artists will show and sell jewelry, paintings, ceramics, glassworks, photography, and more! Demopolis Lions Club hosts fund raiser

The Demopolis Lions Club will hold a fundraiser Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Kidd – Robbins Funeral Home Parking Lot on Highway 80 West. The Lions Club will be selling Boston Butts. Coffee Springs Fall Festival set for Oct. 1

The Fifth Annual Coffee Springs Fall Festival will be held, Saturday, Oct. 1 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Old Coffee Springs, Alabama Football Field. Arts&Crafts booths are available for $10 each.

Eutaw Pilgrimage set for Oct. 8-9

The Eutaw Pilgrimage will be held the second weekend in October. The annual event features a tour of a selection of Eutaw’s fabled antebellum homes and churches. Antique shops will be open on the downtown square, which is also home to the historic Courthouse Complex, now in the process of being restored.

Eutaw to have pumpkin patch this fall

The Eutaw Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Pumpkin Patch Oct. 15 through 31. Pumpkins of all sizes and shapes will be on sale at the Old Swimming Pool on Highway 11 South. Activities will take place throughout the two weeks, including a scarecrow contest on Oct. 15.

Peterman Station festival set
