The Demopolis High School Marketing Class and DECA Club is putting on a concert featuring rock cover band, The Velcro Pygmies, on Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the high school gymnasium.
The DECA students are not only trying to raise money for their organization, but they’re also getting invaluable marketing experience as well by partnering with the Reach And Teach Rocks program.
Piper Roberts, a junior, said they are doing everything from taking care of the band’s accommodations to tracking the expenses of the concert to make sure they are making a profit.
“I think this is a really original experience,” Roberts said. “We could only get this experience by taking this class. And so I. I think it’s been a lot of fun getting to do something new and different, that we wouldn’t have the ability to be able to do it in other classes.”
Courtney Kerby, DECA Advisor and an instructor of the school’s Digital Marketing and Marketing Principles classes, said the project has been a collaboration between all of the students. She said the students selected the band, which many of the students’ parents recognized the artist, and they also were in charge of the marketing.
The students came up with different designs on their own, and the final marketing campaign is based on the aspects the class felt were the best. That includes everything from the social media posts and T-shirts to the tickets.
Tickets are $15 for general admission. There will also be 20 VIP tickets that will allow those ticket holders to chill with the band and enjoy the concert.
“A lot of people do really enjoy the VIP, so we try to have as many people as we can have for it,” Kerby said.
Regular tickets can be purchased on GoFan online, or they can be purchased at the school. VIP tickets can only be purchased in person.
Nivea McCloud, a junior, also said she enjoyed the collaboration between the students.
“I enjoyed just putting all that I together,” McCloud said. “Just seeing everybody with different perspectives, that was great.”
