The Demopolis City Council approved a one-time pay adjustment for its employees at Christmas during Thursday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
The adjustment will give each permanent employee $150 and each temporary employee $75.
The council also approved funding to be taken from the 4-cent gas tax to be used for paving in two different areas. The first area approved was behind the Mustard Seed building on Lake Lane. The approved amount was $40,000, which is the city’s portion of the project. The second paving area approved was $45,000 for McNamara Road.
“The road needs a huge renovation, but for the time being, we are just trying to save it with this,” Mayor Woody Collins said.
Collins issued a pardon during the meeting to Joanna Omar, also known as Joanna Gurley, for writing a bad check in the past. The mayor said the pardon had been requested by Omar and approved by Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers.
Collins also said he would be naming the new preservation commission for the city at the next council meeting.
