The Marengo County Historical Society welcomes guests to a unique and enchanting experience that captures the spirit of Christmas like no other. Mark your calendars for the one-night-only event, “Christmas in the Canebrake: Parlors & Trees.”
On Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., attendees will have an opportunity to step inside the parlors of four private, historic homes along Demopolis’ Main Avenue, each adorned with festive decorations and beautiful Christmas trees.
In addition to the home tours, visitors can indulge their senses with delectable homemade sweets and savories and enjoy musical entertainment at Lyon Hall, the heart of the event. Decked with boughs of cedar, sprigs of pine, and vines of smilax, the hall will be filled with Christmas melodies and an inviting aroma spiced cider. It’s the perfect opportunity to gather with friends and family, celebrate traditions, and perhaps even start new ones.
Tickets for this unforgettable evening are available for just $20 each and can be purchased conveniently through eventbrite.com. Those attending the event will pick up their tickets at Bluff Hall before the event or at Lyon Hall during the event. For individuals who prefer to purchase tickets in person, they are available at the Canebrake Craft Corner, located next to Bluff Hall, from Tuesday to Saturday between 10 AM and 5 PM. Please note that tickets will not be sold at the private homes; this ensures an organized experience for all guests.
The charm of Demopolis isn’t limited to its historic architecture; the community’s holiday spirit shines through its residents. Attending “Christmas in the Canebrake” is more than just a tour; it’s an invitation to connect with the local culture, engage with friendly faces, and immerse yourself in the richness of Marengo County’s heritage. Every home tells a story, and during this event, those stories come alive, revealing cherished memories and the essence of Christmas cheer.
So, whether you’re a history buff, a holiday enthusiast, or simply looking for a delightful way to spend an evening, gather your loved ones for “Christmas in the Canebrake: Parlors & Trees,” an event you won’t want to miss.
