It is an honor and privilege to welcome you to Demopolis as we celebrate the 53rd Christmas on the River. The first weekend of December is a very special time in our community, where we gather to share in the joy, tradition, and spirit of the season.

The 2024 Christmas on the River Committee has been working tirelessly to create an event that not only continues the magic that began 53 years ago but also creates new memories for families to enjoy for years to come. Since its inception, Christmas on the River has captivated the hearts of those in and around West Alabama, drawing visitors from near and far. What began as a local tradition has grown into an annual tourist attraction, bringing people from across the country to experience the beauty of our community.

Community members of all ages volunteer their time, energy, and talents to make this event one of the Southeast’s premier holiday celebrations. From the lighting of the Christmas Tree Tower at Black Warrior EMC on Friday, November 29, to the grand finale with the Nautical Parade and Fireworks Display on Saturday evening, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Throughout the week, you can experience a variety of events, including the Alabama State BBQ Cook-off, Christmas in the Canebrake tours, the Gaineswood Candlelight Tour, the Jingle Bell Run, and the Fair in the Square, where you can shop a wide variety of arts and crafts vendors. The festivities culminate in the Christmas on the River Gala, which brings the community together in celebration and cheer.
