Gov. Kay Ivey has awarded about $1.05 million in grants to eight organizations that serve victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse in 20 Alabama counties.
Among those grants included SAN Inc., also known as Turning Point. They received $96,720 for services including an emergency shelter, counseling, advocacy and assistance in helping victims of domestic and family violence navigate the criminal justice system. Turning Point serves Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens, Sumter and Tuscaloosa counties.
“We have a responsibility to protect the victims of these crimes and to provide them access to professional, compassionate care in a timely manner,” Gov. Ivey said. “I commend these agencies for offering comprehensive services to victims throughout the state.”
The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs is administering the grants with funds made available by the U.S. Department of Justice.
“ADECA supports organizations like these throughout the state to ensure that communities are able to give victims their best chance to heal and live happy, productive lives,” ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell said. “ADECA joins Gov. Ivey in support of the vital work done at these centers.”
