The Linden Patriots won Class 1A, Region 3 by defeating University Charter 33-8 on Oct. 25.

The reward for winning that championship was a rematch with Southern Choctaw, a team that the Patriots had to rally to win 16-14 during its non-region game midseason.

Head coach Travis Lockett knows this game is going to be tough because of the familiarity between the teams.

“Last time we played them, we had to come back from being down 14-0 to win the game,” Lockett said. “So we know what they want to do, but they also know exactly what we want to do. So, it’s going to be another tough game for us. We certainly can’t look beyond the game we have in front of us.”

Lockett said his team hasn’t quite met expectations yet, but he has seen them grow from game one.

“I thought we were a pretty talented team, but I knew we didn’t have any experience,” Lockett said. “So our guys have really grown a lot since the beginning of the year. They are getting better each week with more experience.”

Southern Choctaw (5-5) finished as the No. 4 seed in Class 1A, Region 1. In addition to the game with Linden, the Indians fell to Leroy (28-6), MIllry (41-0), Sweet Water (35-0) and Excel (28-14), which were the final four games of the regular season. Wins came against Choctaw County (29-0), Shields (36-0), McIntosh (44-0) and Marengo (14-8).
