Kate Janet Lockhart Allinder of Linden passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, at the age of 81. Kate was born on Oct. 6, 1943. She had humble beginnings growing up in Parish. Her family lived off the land in a dog trot cabin in the foothills of Appalachia. Her upbringing instilled in her strength, courage, independence and grit. Kate was a gifted musician and songwriter. She was well known for her beautiful singing voice.

After high school she moved to Demopolis and worked as a telephone switchboard operator. In Demopolis, she met her husband, Ike Newton Allinder. They settled in Linden and began their family. She later became a tax professional with H & R Block in Demopolis and purchased the franchise. She had a very successful career for nearly 40 years and won many awards.

Kate is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ike Newton Allinder; two daughters, Deborah Lee (Gary) and Vickie Cannon (Stephen); four grandchildren, Adam Lee, Jonathan Cannon, Lillian Cannon, and Isaac Cannon; one brother, James Lockhart (Ruth); and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Lockhart and Lillian Tingle Lockhart; brother, Raymond Lockhart; sister-in-law, Lula Bell Lockhart; sister, Jemima Jolly; and brother-in-law, Houston Jolly.

Funeral services will be held at Linden Baptist Church, 100 Abbot St., Linden, on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at 11 a.m. with Dr. Chris Kynard and Kelly Jolly officiating. Burial will follow at Myrtlewood Cemetery in Myrtlewood.
