The Demopolis Tigers rolled up 357 total yards of offense to defeat Sipsey Valley 35-14 Friday night at home.
Most of the yardage came on the ground thanks to Keishawn Rowser. A 52-yard run by Keishawn Rowser set up his 1-yard touchdown two plays later with seven minutes left in the first quarter. Jose Tellez made the extra point to give Demopolis a 7-0 lead.
After a quick three-and-out forced by the Demopolis defense, quarterback Jake Bumgarner connected with Fred Aldridge on a long pass to set up another scoring opportunity. The two connected to give the Tigers a first-and-goal on a well-blocked screen pass led by Tellez and D’Quarius Banks. However, the drive ended at the 1-yard line to leave the Tigers with a 7-0 lead.
The Tiger defense forced a punt, giving them great field position at the Sipsey Valley 33. A methodical drive led to a Rowser seven-yard touchdown run as Hunter Lolley, Kavion Rowser, Luke Bumgarner and Bryant Deas sealed the edge. Tellez added the extra point to give Demopolis a 14-0 lead.
Alexander Mullings provided pressure on a third down to force an errant throw and a punt. A penalty gave the Tigers new life. The Tiger offensive line created a huge hole on third-and-goal at the 5 led by Conner Reynolds, Bumgarner and Garrett Hilchey allowed Carlow James to score the touchdown.
Sipsey Valley scored with 19 seconds to go in the second quarter to cut the lead to 21-7.
The offensive line went back to work in the second half, as Rowser scored again, this time on a 31-yard run where he was hardly touched. Tellez added the extra point to regain a 28-7 lead.
Sipsey Valley threatened on the next drive, but pressure by Mullings and Josiah Colgrove forced another bad throw on fourth down, ended the threat at the Demopolis 8.
The Tigers put the game away with a punishing 92-yard drive featuring a 51-yard run by Rowser, in which he knocked over several defenders on his way to the end zone.
Sipsey Valley added a touchdown late, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the advantage.
The Tigers improved to 5-2 on the season with only two more region games remaining against Jemison and Northside.
