Free Medicare Counseling

The Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission will have a free Medicare counseling event during open enrollment for the State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) Thursday, Oct. 17, from 9-11 a.m. at West Alabama Senior Center, 500 E. Charity Golf Tournament

The United Way of Southwest Alabama (UWSWA) is excited to announce the 4th Annual Choctaw County Charity Golf Tournament, benefiting UWSWA and its 22 partner agencies serving Choctaw County. There will be auditions for a family-friendly short film on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 19-20, from 2-5 p.m. both days at the Theo Ratliff Activity Center, located at 306 First Avenue, Demopolis. The directors are looking for Black males and females ages 18-50. The film is under the direction of Gloria, writer and director of stage plays including “So You Think You’re a Good Woman,” “Nelly Mae’s Beauty Parlor” and “Ms. Daisy’s Coffee Shop.” This will be a Cha’Sam Production. Halloween Decorations Contest

The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce will have its Halloween/Fall Yard of the Month contest next month. Judging will be based on Creativity: Unique themes and decorations; Curb Appeal: Overall attractiveness from the street; Seasonal Spirit: Embracing autumn and Halloween vibes; Effort: Visible time and care put into the yard; and Community Impact: How it brings joy to neighbors. Get ready to enchant us with your fall magic!

DCSF cornhole tournament

The Demopolis City Schools Foundation’s second annual Cornhole Tournament will be Nov. 14 starting at 5:45 p.m. on the Demopolis High School tennis courts. Registration for teams is $60 There will be raffles and prizes given along with an auction for board designed by Mr. Vann’s CTE classes. The tournament will be double elimination. Register and pay online by visiting www.demopolis.org. Check and cash payments are accepted as well.
