Demopolis volleyball (13-13) returned to the court last week after a week off, shaking off the rust by beating Sweet Water last Monday in straight sets in a tri-match in Sweet Water. The Tigers dropped two of three in the following match against Jackson.
Tuesday the Tigers travelled to Montevallo with hopes and the opportunity to secure the top seed in their area, but the Bulldogs took all three sets in the rematch, evening the series at 1-all.
Demopolis still is in the driver’s seat in the area and can sew up the top seed with a win at home over Jemison Tuesday. The Tigers, who haven’t lost a home game this season, topped the Panthers on the road last month.
In a tune up for Tuesday’s big area clash, the Tigers traveled to Baldwin County High this weekend for tournament play and had its strongest tournament showing of the year, sweeping pool games against Elberta and Satsuma Friday and taking the top seed in its pool.
Demopolis dropped its opening bracket match Saturday to Class 7A Foley 3-1, won a rematch with Elberta and lost a rematch with Foley, again, 3-1, ending their run in the tournament in the quarterfinal round.
