The Demopolis High School football team opened the 2024 regular season with a tough opening matchup against 10th-ranked Mountain Brook.

The Spartans escaped Demopolis with a 28-0 win over the home-standing Tigers.

Demopolis (0-1) will hit the road for the first time this season against Jackson (0-1). The Aggies lost to Saraland 35-27 last week.

Mountain Brook (1-0) returns home for its game against the Parker Thundering Herd.

Sweet Water takes down Mississippi team

The Sweet Water Bulldogs crossed the Mississippi state line to open the season at Southeast Lauderdale of Meridian, Mississippi.

The Bulldogs emerged victorious with a 27-7 win.

Sweet Water returns to action this Friday at Thomasville, who defeated Leroy 35-0.

Linden falls to Fultondale

The Linden Patriots’s rally came up short against the home-standing Fultondale Wildcats, who emerged with a 34-26 win at the Jefferson County school.

The Wildcats led 7-6 in the first quarter, but the Patriots responded with two scores in the second quarter to take an 18-14 lead.

Fultondale took the lead in the third quarter 21-18 and outscored Linden 13-8 in the final stanza to win the game.

Marengo falls to Blacksher

The Marengo Panthers fell to Blacksher 32-8 on Friday night.

The Panthers (0-1) will return to action Friday against the St. Luke’s Episcopal Wildcats.

The Panthers’ only score came on KIing Fisher’s 19-yard pass to Centell Bruno.The two-point conversion was good.

Jamarcus Battle led the rushing attack with 52 yards on nine carries. Fisher had 42 yards on six carries while Michael James had 40 yards on 10 carries.
