The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Demopolis police and fire departments along with Walmart to “stuff the bus” full of school supplies for the upcoming school year.
Monica King, director of DACC, said she was ecstatic about the support of the community to help out local students who will need school supplies. She especially thanked the police and fire departments for helping make the event a success.
“There is no way we would have been as successful without the support of the Demopolis Fire Department and the Demopolis Police Department,” King said. “They are the ones who really provided the energy and support to get the donations from our community. I am overwhelmed at the outpouring of support from the people in our city.”
King said Walmart set out a couple of watermelon bins to help collect the supplies, and the donations made by community members filled up both of the large bins. King also said that several others donated money to the campaign. She said those funds were used to purchase additional supplies, as the event was held during the Back-to-School tax free weekend.
All of the donations will be staying in Marengo County, as King said the supplies will be split up among the Demopolis and Linden schools.
“This is going to make a big difference at these schools,” King said. “It’s great to see everyone come together to help the children of our community.”
