The Demopolis Police Department is holding an event next month with the goal of trying to say goodbye to crime in the community.
The DPD will participate in the National Night Out Event on August 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. at George Franks Field at the Demopolis City Landing.
Police Chief Rex Flowers said this year’s event will be a special one.
“This is the first time we have held this event on the designated nationwide National Night Out event date,” Flowers said. “The purpose of National Night Out is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.”
Flowers said there will be free food, refreshments, music, bouncy houses, mechanical bull and a mobile game room for those attending the party.
According to its website, National Night Out is an annual “community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.” The event’s goal is to enhance relationships between residents and law enforcement to bring back a true sense of community.
“Please come join us in giving crime a going away party,” Flowers said.
