Brasfield & Gorrie, the general contractor for the West Alabama Highway project, and the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will hold a public information event on July 11 at Wallace State Community Center in Demopolis.
Representatives from Brasfield & Gorrie and ALDOT will provide information and answer questions about the project starting at 5 p.m.
The West Alabama Highway will add lanes to U.S. 43 and Alabama 69 to provide a four-lane divided highway from Thomasville to Moundville. This will complete a four-lane highway corridor of roughly 200 miles connecting Mobile and Tuscaloosa.
“We are looking forward to sharing information about the many benefits this project will bring to the area and answering people’s questions,” said Kevin White, a regional vice president for Brasfield & Gorrie.
For decades, residents, business leaders and public officials have called for construction of the West Alabama Highway as a way to ease travel, improve safety and increase economic opportunities for people in rural West Alabama.
Maps of the highway route and right-of-way acquisition, as well as information about design features and the anticipated construction schedule, will be available for viewing at the in-person meeting.
The project is expected to need 700 workers during peak construction.
