Whitfield Regional Hospital was placed on lockdown Monday evening when a shooting victim arrived on the scene.
Demopolis Police Chief Rex Flowers said his department assisted the Marengo County Sheriff’s office during the lockdown. He explained that a lockdown for safety is standard protocol when a shooting victim is transported to a facility for medical care.
“We assisted the Sheriff’s department on the shooting,” Flowers said. “[First responders] brought the people to the hospital and we assisted them there with locking down the hospital.”
Flowers said he believed the shooting suspect had been taken into custody but could not comment further on details of the incident.
Investigators with the Marengo County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting. No further information is available at this time. This article will be updated when new information becomes available.
