Howell Consulting Services in Birmingham has partnered with McDonald’s and Mercedes Benz to donate $9,000 in scholarships to students at this year’s McDonald’s Magic City Classic held Oct. 26.

The partners announced their collaborative effort in support of high education at the event, revealing their intent to contribute the funding to benefit nine students from Alabama’s Black Belt Region who will be attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) 

“We are proud to support HBCUs and the incredible students who contribute to the legacy and vibrancy of these institutions,” said Carnelle Howell, Executive Director at Howell Consulting Services. “I am a product of the Black Belt. We wanted to be intentional with our support of students from The Black Belt Region Of Alabama. Education is a powerful tool for change, and we believe that these scholarships will help these students on their path to success.”

The partners stressed their commitment to empowering and uplifting youths and recognized the importance of education and opportunity by awarding scholarships in the amount of $1,000 to nine students planning to attend HBCU schools in an effort to relieve some of the financial burden associated with pursuing higher education.

According to Howell, organizers are in contact with school principals who are helping them connect with students. Plans center around awarding scholarships to Black Belt Region students, primarily in Marengo, Green, and Hale counties.

Howell, who hails from Linden and has relocated to the Birmingham area, said it was important to him to be able to give back to youths back home.

‘My heart is in Linden,” Howell said. “So, it’s really nice to be in a position to give back to the people there.”

The McDonald’s Magic City Classic, a highly-anticipated annual event, brings together communities, alumni, and supporters of HBCUs, to celebrate the rich history and tradition of these institutions.
