The Demopolis Tigers were fired up last Friday and wasted very little time in outscoring the visiting Jemison Panthers 48-14. The Tigers scored the majority of their points in the second quarter, and Jemison got the final touchdown of the game in the third quarter.

“We’ve been practicing and we’ve gotten better every week. The kids showed some confidence tonight. We threw and passed the ball, we pass protected. We looked so much better tonight,” said Head Coach Lance Tucker. “I challenged them in the locker room and I expect to be better in practice and better on Friday nights.”

The first touchdown for the Tigers was a 42-yard pass from quarterback Kevin McElroy to Dalyn Jackson with 7:08 still to play in the first quarter. The PAT kick by Jose Tellez and the Tigers jumped out to an early 7-0 lead.

Cox scored his second touchdown of the night on a 45-yard run with 7:40 remaining in the first half. The extra point was good and the Tigers took a 34-0 lead.

The Panthers finally got on the board late in the second quarter when quarterback Luke Gann completed a 66-yard pass to Richard Mims. The PAT kick by Chris Borraz was good, and the Panthers cut into the Tigers lead at 34-7.

Keishawn Rowser got in on the scoring with his own 34-yard touchdown run with 2:38 remaining in the second quarter. Tellez remained good with his kicks and the Tiger score went to 41-7

Near the end of the second quarter, an interception by Jamarcus Vawters set up the Tigers to score their last points of the game. McElroy completed a pass to Emonte Charleston with 14 seconds remaining in the half. Tellez made good on his PAT kick, making the score 48-7.

The final score of the game was a touchdown run by the Panthers quarterback, Luke Gann. Borraz’s PAT was good, making the final score of the game 48-14.

After the game, Kevin McElroy said good blocking and successfully running routes was the key to the Tigers’ success.

“Hopefully we can carry that over into next week,” said McElroy.

Next week the Tigers will host the Holtville Bulldogs in their last region game of the season.

“If we play like we did tonight, then it shouldn’t be much of an issue,” said McElroy

Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
