Marengo County inmate hearing to be continued

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles continued a parole hearing request for Marengo inmate Rodney Wayne Champion ,61 on Aug. 8. Champion, also known as Champion, Rodney Wade Turner, and Rodney Wade is serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole and is being held at Fountain Correctional Center in Escambia County.
Champion has multiple convictions in Bibb, Tuscaloosa, Elmore, and Marengo counties that date back to 1986 including a two-year sentence for Theft of Property in the first degree in Tuscaloosa County, two years for Theft of Property in the second degree in, Bibb County, two year concurrent terms for first-degree Theft of Property, and two years each on seven counts for a total of 14 years with consecutive terms for Burglary in the third degree, in Tuscaloosa County, 15 years (concurrent).
On November 18, 1988, Champion was charged with first-degree Escape, in Elmore County, 999 years, 99 months, and 99 days (consecutive). On April 20, 2004, he was sentenced to serve 15 years for Possession of a Controlled Substance in Marengo County, and 20 years for second-degree Theft of Property in Tuscaloosa County. On June 5, 2018, Champion was sentenced for one year in Tuscaloosa County on Possession/Receiving Controlled Substance charges, a Class D felony.
Champion has served 36 years and four months of his sentences.
