Marengo County Tax Refunds Among Largest in Alabama

Tax return website SmartAsset recently released its annual study and revealed Marengo County as one of the largest tax refund counties in Alabama. Every year SmartAsset releases a tax study on places where people receive the largest tax refunds, as well as the places where people owe the most.
To determine the counties that received the highest average tax refunds in Alabama, the study divided the total amount of money refunded to residents by the number of refunds given out in each county.
Marengo County was ranked ninth out of ten counties studied and had 7,090 taxpayers who received funds. The average tax refunded for Marengo residents was $3,274. The study also showed how many taxpayers owe (1,440) and the average taxes owed ($2,699).
The top ranked county was Greene County that had 3,060 taxpayers receive refunds. The average tax refunded for Green County was $3,550. Taxpayers that owe were 430 and the average tax owed is $3,333.
Other surrounding counties included Wilcox County that was ranked second with 3,820 taxpayers receiving refunds and the average tax refund was $3,472. Dallas County had 13,340 taxpayers receive an average of $3,460.
Lowndes County had 4,110 tax paying residents who received $3,460. Clarke County had 8,630 taxpayers receive an average of $3,283 in refunds, and Hale County had 5,540 residents receive $3,279 in refunds.
