Career Technical Education Director Terry Norton was not present for the July 27 Marengo County Board of Education meeting, but left a technical update for the Board members.
Under technology updates, repairs for recent lightning damage at Sweet Water High School are almost done and will be complete by the first day of school. All school buildings have WiFi/Internet and fiber connections to the band room were completed last week.
Chromebook cases were delivered to each school last week. Students should leave these cases on their Chromebooks at all times to reduce damage. Security protocols are being updated and end of life systems are being removed. Cleanup of the active directory and plans to segment WiFi connections are underway.
At A.L. Johnson High School, Mr. Smith’s and Ms. McKinney’s classrooms/labs have been reconfigured and re-cabled, and Mr. Frazier’s CTE laptops have been re-setup and are expected to arrive at Marengo High School this week.
Under Career Tech, the College Career Readiness (CCR) grant has been submitted and a response is expected by the end of August. Career Tech items that have been requested are ACT Boot Camp for students, Data analytics and PD for teachers, Official ACT, ACT Work Keys, and ASVAB materials for each school.
Stipends for teachers to provide extended learning for ACT, Work Keys, Intervention, Career Tech, and Stem Robotics kits for each school.
Funds to create a plant/flower community nursery at Marengo as a part of the new Plant Sciences program. Stipends for extended learning during the year and the months of June and July.
The next meeting of the Marengo County Board of Education will be on August 17.
