During the July 18 Linden City Council meeting, Mayor Gwendolyn Rogers announced that Linden is looking for a new police chief as current chief Cody Cross has put in his resignation. Cross will be leaving next Friday, July 28.
The Council went into executive session to discuss an interim chief to serve in the position while the city conducts its search. The Council voted to appoint Lieutenant Richard Varner as the interim police chief.
Cross took over as the police chief from Robert Alston, Jr. earlier this year in January after Alston was elected Marengo County Sheriff.
The opening for the position was posted on Wednesday, July 19 and will remain posted for two weeks. For anyone interested in the position, visit City Hall for an application Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
