Eric Hare (left) and Psietta Williams (right) were arrested for sneaking contraband into the Marengo County Detention Center. Bonds have been set at $7,500 and $5,000 respectively.

On Friday, June 23, around 10:15 p.m., Correction Officers observed a person crawl through a cut place in the fence on the North side of the jail. The correction officers quickly notified law enforcement.

The subject went over to the wall of the jail where the subject tied contraband to a rope made from torn towels, that was hanging from one of the second floor windows. The contraband was pulled up from inside the cell of that window. The subject, aided by another person, who held the fence, crawled back through and attempted to leave when they were apprehended by law enforcement. A third person, the subject’s mother, was also apprehended during the investigation.

The subject that crawled through the fence was a 16-year-old juvenile aided by his father 45-year-old Eric Hare. The third subject was the juvenile’s mother, 39-year-old Psietta Williams. Both adults were arrested and the juvenile was released to his grandmother pending juvenile court.

Confiscated contraband were: Vapes and chargers, loose tobacco, TOPS wrapping paper for smoking, and marijuana.

The Marengo County Sheriff’s Office is cracking down hard on contraband trying to come into the jail. There have been several arrests of inmates already incarcerated who have been found to be in possession of contraband. We are doing random checks to combat the issue.

The County Commission has partnered with us to assist us with what we need to combat this issue. Contraband will not be tolerated and anyone who attempts to introduce contraband into the Marengo County Detention Center, will be arrested and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
