After about two weeks being drenched by thunderstorms, Marengo County will be warming up this week as will the rest of the state. Expect Heat Advisories this week as temperatures will likely hit triple digits.
While there could be pop-up showers throughout the week, most of Alabama is expected to remain dry through Thursday, June 29. Highs for Tuesday and Wednesday will hover around the mid 90s, while Thursday and Friday will see temperatures in the upper 90s to lower 100s. Forecasts say that the heat combined with dew points in the 70s will “lead to dangerously hot heat index values in the 102 to 114 range.”
Saturday and Sunday will also be hot, but temperatures will begin dropping to the upper 80s and lower 90s. The weekend could see some showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon and evening hours.
Staying hydrated is the most important thing in hot weather of this caliber, but residents should also be aware of other ways to beat the heat. Remember to wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothing, seek A/C or shade as often as possible, check in on neighbors and family, especially the elderly and children, keep pets indoors, and watch for signs of heat-related illnesses such as heat stroke.
Be sure to keep up with weather updates for heat advisories on weather apps or through the Marengo County E-911 Facebook page.
