During the November 14 Demopolis Board of Education meeting, several students from the school system were recognized for their achievements in the classroom. Two students performed highly on the ACAP (Alabama Comprehensive Assessment Program) test, and four performed well on the ACT. The ACAP is given to students in grades 3-8 and the ACT is given to high school juniors.

This past year, Webb Reynolds (4th grade) and Dylan Wilson (5th grade) had perfect 700 scores in math on the ACAP. Superintendent Tony Willis said the percentage of students who receive perfect scores on the ACAP is 1 in 1000, which makes their achievements very impressive.

At the high school, four students made a 36 on the ACT in either Reading and English. Jane Wiley Wright, Kira Bruno, and Charlie Grace Card all made a 36 in Reading, Ben Lindsey received a 36 in English, and overall 30 composite score.

“I feel like whenever we have a student who made All-State in sports, we make a big deal about it. But we’re in the business of educating kids, and we had six students who had perfect scores on our academic achievement,” said Willis. “It didn’t happen by chance, they put a lot of work in. We’re proud of them.”

The parents were also applauded for their efforts in helping their children aim high and find success in the classroom.

“The parents are doing a lot of work to help and support our students,” said Willis.
