The Demopolis Board of Education unanimously approved Alphus Shipman as the new principal for U.S. Jones Elementary School. Shipman will begin work on July 27.

Shipman brings 22 years of experience to U.S. Jones and he plans to work closely with teachers to learn and understand the workings of the school. He is looking forward to the upcoming school year and is eager to begin building relationships with teachers and the community.

Under action items, the board approved using ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds to purchase Think Books from Howard Technology Solutions for $18,220. The board also approved a quote from Imagine Learning for Digital Library and Training for DMS. The cost for Imagine Learning is $20,875.

H&M Construction won the bid to paint the hallways and door and window trims at DHS for a cost of $137,500.

• Approved contracts with Leon Clark as Truancy Officer, and Kirk Brooker and Becky Holley as Art Teachers
• Approved the Supplemental Schedule for 2022-2023
