The June 14 Marengo County Commission meeting was a short one with most items on the agenda only needing approval from the Commission.
An important item that was approved was the closing of the shooting range for SWAT Training from July 25 through July 29. Following that, the Commission approved summer workers and the hiring of Jamya Thompson as the Assistant Clerk. Commissioner Calvin Martin was also to remain as the county’s Legislative Committee representative.
Under old business, the Commission approved the reappointment of Carolyn Rogers to the Board of Directors for the Marengo County Emergency Communications District.
Other items approved by the Commission include a quote for South Alabama Tree Service for $1,600 to remove two trees at Chickasaw Park. They approved a contract for the County to provide internet service to the County Annex building, and discussion for the ADECA Covid Funds for the Armory was moved to executive session.
Commissioner Jason Windham gave a brief update on the City Landing project underway in Demopolis. Windham said that on Monday, June 13, striping had begun on the parking lot and he expected to have the keys on Tuesday, June 14.
“It’s pretty impressive and blew me out of the water. I want to thank the MCEDA, the Commission, and the City of Demopolis for being a part of that,” said Windham. “I think it’s going to be a good project for Marengo County.”
The Marengo County Commission meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the Courthouse in Linden.
