The City of Demopolis is one step closer to having an outdoor paintball facility after the Council approved an amendment to the zoning ordinance.
The Council approved David T. Compton’s request to open a paintball facility on his property between Lock and Dam Road and the Warhouse Drive-In theater. Compton said the park will be situated on “3.5 acres where two opposing forts will play Capture the Flag, Protect the President, and other games.” Compton hopes to open the park in June after he gets approval from the Board of Adjustment on June 7.
Police Chief Rex Flowers approached the Council about retiring the department’s drug dog, Honda, who is dealing with health problems. Flowers said the department has a multi-purpose dog that was purchased by the District Attorney’s Office, and an explosives and firearms dog from the Demopolis City Schools system. The Council voted unanimously to retire Honda.
Items approved by the Council
- Approved rezoning the Brickyard from R-3 to R-4 to allow mobile homes with a special exception of the Board of Adjustment
- Approved a second application for Demopolis Six LP Inc to allow the sale of table wine off premises. During the previous meeting, the business was approved for beer sales, but not wine
