The March 15 Linden City Council meeting was short with the only reports coming from Public Safety and the Mayor’s report.
Under Public Safety, Police Chief Robert Alston, Jr asked the Council for permission to post the 7th man position for the police department. Alston stated that there were challenges with the budget during the last fiscal year, being that they were around $6,100 over for that particular line item.
Alston said he would like to have someone in the academy that he could bring in at the lowest possible pay rate so the police department can stay within its budget. The Council voted 3-2 to allow Alston to post the position.
Under the Mayor’s Report, the Council voted to approve the spring cleaning event for the city.
On 310 Cahaba Road, there is an irrigation problem on a resident’s property where the water drainage has damaged her driveway. The culvert that runs beneath the driveway is damaged and the foundation around the culvert and the road has sunk in, making the driveway unusable on one side.
There is an estimated 21 feet of asphalt that needs to be replaced and will cost between $10,000 to $15,000 to repair it. Due to the damaged culvert being part of the city’s drainage system, the Council approved the repairs on the drainage system on Cahaba Road.
The Linden City Council meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
