At the Linden Board of Education meeting on February 25, the board received updates on construction at George P. Austin Middle School, and bids on the multipurpose room.
Superintendent Dr. Timothy Thurman said that renovations at G.P. Austin are progressing quickly, and that he is pleased with where the work currently stands. While work is moving along at G.P. Austin, at the moment there is no set completion date.
Thurman reported on the bid on the multipurpose room at Linden Elementary School, and said that the bid came in much higher than expected. However, he said that any project that is $500,000 or below no longer has to go through the state department which will allow the school system to contract with different groups for a more reasonable price.
Thurman said that the school has ordered and received 80 air purifiers for every classroom in the district. Installation is set to be soon.
Under new business, the school system’s request for new HVAC systems using ESSER funds has been approved. The funds will provide new systems for the entire district, and Thurman is currently working on finding companies to install the systems.
Items approved by the board:
- Approved the financial statements for January 2022 and all bank statements have been reconciled
- Approved the Superintendent and CSFO to amend the budget for the 2021-22 fiscal year as needed
- Approved the resignation letter of Ms. Tammy Lofton as Child Nutrition Program Director
- Approved the resignation letter of Ms. Debra Boykin as Secretary/Bookkeeper at Linden Elementary School
