At the recent Linden Board of Education meeting on March 22, 2021, Superintendent Dr. Timothy Thurman announced that the state department has approved renovation projects for George P. Austin Middle School and a multipurpose room at the elementary school.
With the approval, the school system will move forward with contacting the contractor, and construction will begin immediately. Once the contractor has signed his contract, he will have 180 days to complete the project. The multipurpose room is still in the early stages, and plans are being drawn up. The multipurpose room is expected to be completed either before the fall school year or shortly after.
At the February 24 meeting, the board discussed holding a communication meeting at the football field about the upcoming summer school program. The meeting would be held at the Linden High School football field to allow for social distancing and to allow more community members to attend. Dr. Thurman said that he has not started planning for the meeting but that it is something he would like to do.
Under new business, Dr. Thurman welcomed Mrs. Lilie Tate as the newest member of the Linden Board of Education. Tate is replacing Xonome Bryant, who chose not to return for another term.
“We recognize that Mrs. Tate has been a respectful part of this community for a long time and has been very supportive of Linden City Schools,” said Thurman. “We look forward to working with her, and we know she has nothing but the best interest of the students, faculty, and staff.”
