“We were pretty excited to have both teams go undefeated against both schools,” said DHS tennis coach Braswell Braswell.
Braswell said everyone on the team was a key player in last week’s match.
“Every person on our team makes each team member that much better,” said Braswell. “They challenge each other and make each other stronger. This team is really good about supporting each other. The team as a whole is what makes it work so well.”
Braswell said she is excited for her athletes to win the game, especially after COVID-19 ended the season early last year.
“This was the match that we were playing when they shut the schools down,” said Braswell. “The fact that we got to play it all the way through, came away with a clean sweep, and are still playing is the best part. These kids love it, and I’m happy that the state of Alabama can play tennis.”
Next up for the DHS tennis teams are trips to Birmingham to play at John Carroll Catholic High School. The Lady Tigers will take on the Charter School on Thursday. The next sectional match will be on March 23 against Sipsey Valley.
Preparation for the upcoming matches includes getting in practice with singles, doubles, and drills.
“We’ll work on keeping up with the basics because that’s how you win. You just have to do your job,” said Braswell. “They’re a team who wants to get out and play all the time, and that keeps them going.”
Members of the teams are: Coaches Braswell Braswell and Lee Jordan, Sasser Braswell, Avery Emory, Mary Jordan, Sara Jordan, Anna Rene Lewis, Alexa Martinez, Buckley Nettles, Avery Schumacher and Anne Eloise Smith. Men’s team members are: Coulter Bumgarner, Seth Davis, Chandler Hutton, Jackson Hutton, Hamilton Pettis, Trey Pritchett, Conner Reynolds, Michael Reynolds, Ryan Reynolds, Carson Thornton, Ben Turberville, Bryant Turberville.
