The 12th annual Marengo County Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony and awards banquet will be held at the Demopolis Civic Center on Monday, February 8. Doors will open at 5:15 p.m., and the dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m.
This year’s inductees are Harold Little of Linden, Cedric Landrum of Sweet Water, Lester Mitchell of Demopolis, and Jesse Little of Linden. Inductees are nominated, then the nomination goes before a selection committee that picks who will enter the hall of fame.
In addition to the inductions, the 2003 girl’s softball team from Demopolis High School will be recognized as the Team of the Year. The 2003 team won the 4A state championship with a 31-11 record. Several special awards will be given out during the banquet, including a $1000 scholarship that will be awarded to Mallory Roe from Sweet Water High School.
Unlike past banquets, this year will see a much smaller number of attendees due to COVID-19.
“We’re limiting the banquet to family and friends this year,” said Chairman of the Marengo Sports Hall of Fame Tony Speegle. “We ask that everyone wear a mask and practice social distancing. We want to protect everyone so we can enjoy the banquet like we always do.”
Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the door. Food will be provided but will be kept in sealed containers, so no one has to be concerned about their meal.
Tickets are $25 each and must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. Due to occupancy restrictions, tickets are limited to inductees’ families and relatives. For tickets, contact Tony Speegle at 334-216-2666.
