Although mistakes and a rash of penalties plagued Demopolis Friday night, the Tigers hung on to get a Homecoming victory over the Jasper Vikings.
Hayes Atkins scored first for the Tigers on a 3-yard run with 11:43 in the first quarter. Cole Wilson’s PAT attempt failed, and the Tigers took a 6-0 lead over the visiting Jasper Vikings.
The Tigers next score came early in the second quarter on a 55-yard pass from quarterback Tyler Drake to Price Smith. Wilson’s PAT was no good, leaving the score at 13-0.
The Vikings got on the board after recovering a Demopolis fumble at the Tigers 25-yard line. The Vikings scored moments later when Kevon Samuels ran it in from 18-yards out with 9:09 left in the second quarter. Preston Reed’s extra point was good, and the Vikings had cut into the Tigers lead, making the score 13-7. Neither team scored again in the game making the final score 13-7.
The Tigers (6-0, 5-0) have next week off before hosting Jemison Jaguars on Oct. 19.
