Fourth quarter rally lifts Tigers over Falcons

After a long, hard-fought battle against the Central-Tuscaloosa Falcons, the Demopolis Tigers came out on top with a 40-24 win.
Neither team scored until the second quarter when Demopolis quarterback Tyler Drake completed an 11-yard pass to Peyton Stevenson with 12:00 left in the second quarter. Cole Wilson’s extra point was no good, and the Tigers had a 6-0 lead. Central-Tuscaloosa retaliated moments later when quarterback Peyton Batchelor completed 39-yard a pass to Christon Curtis. Edward Smith’s PAT was no good, and the score was tied at 6-6 with 11:52 left in the second quarter.
Demopolis fumbled the ball on their next possession, and the Falcons recovered it with Smith running 95 yards for a touchdown. The two-point conversion failed, but the Falcons had taken a 12-6 lead over the Tigers with 7:14 left in the second quarter. The Tigers scored again when Peyton Stevenson ran the ball in from a yard out to tie the game at 12-12. Jim Lawler’s PAT was no good, leaving the score at 12-12.
The third quarter began with a Falcon touchdown when Batchelor completed a pass to Arnsey Richardson for 14 yards. The PAT failed, and the Falcons had an 18-12 lead over Demopolis with 12:00 left in the third quarter. Demopolis scored next with 4:08 in the third when Peyton Stevenson completed a 14-yard pass to Cameron Wright. Wilson’s PAT was good, and the game was tied again at 18-18.
Neither team scored again until midway in the fourth quarter when Hayes Atkins scored on a 4-yard run for Demopolis. Wilson’s extra point was good, and the Tigers retook the lead 26-18 with 5:54 left in the game. The Falcons struck back Stevenson Hodges returned a kick 75 yards for a touchdown. Markelious Furr’s PAT failed, and Central-Tuscaloosa cut the Tiger’s lead to 26-24. With 5:43 left in the game, Drake completed a 65-yard pass to Stevenson for a Tiger touchdown. Wilson’s extra point was good, and the Tigers increased their lead to 33-24. Demopolis closed the door on the Falcons with 0:44 seconds left in the game when Atkins ran it in from 2 yards out. Wilson’s PAT was good and brought the final score to 40-24.
The Demopolis Tigers (3-0) return home next Friday to take on the Sipsey Valley Bears in a conference game.
