Virgil Mitchell “Champ” Smith, 69, a contractor of Sweet Water, Alabama died May 19, 2020 at Choctaw General Hospital.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 24, 1950 in Butler, Alabama to Arthur and Mary Lou Smith. He was a member of Sweet Water Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by his daughter, Haley Hogancamp (Kevin) of Tallahassee, Florida; four brothers, Shelton Smith of Sweet Water, Buddy Smith of Sweet Water, Raymond Smith of Chicago, and Jimmy Ballard of Sweet Water; two sisters, Louise Jowers of Thomasville and Mary Hutchins of Clanton, Alabama; and two grandchildren, Hudson Hogancamp and Mackenzie Hogancamp.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Massey Smith; his parents, Arthur and Mary Lou Smith; five brothers, Gerald Smith, Anthony Smith, Eluid Smith, Lee Vernon Smith, and Robert Eural Smith; and three sisters, Eula Ree Taylor, Ann Kelly, and Mittie Mae Smith.
Graveside funeral services were held at Demopolis Memorial Gardens on Friday, May 22, at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clay Davis officiating.
