Two rising seniors at Demopolis High School have been selected to attend the American Legion Boys State in Tuscaloosa.
Jim Lindsay, son of Austin and Beth Lindsay, and Peyton Stevenson, son of Rance and Marnise Stevenson, are the two students selected to attend.
Normally, the gathering of outstanding boys in Alabama is in May, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Boys State, which is held on the campus of the University of Alabama, was initially postponed to July. But, the event has now been canceled for 2020. The students selected for this year’s Boys State are invited to atteend a joint session of the program during the summer of 2021.
Alabama Boys State is one of the highest honors granted to Alabama students who are chosen based on their demonstration of leadership, hard work, strong morals, and motivation in school and community activities.
Boys State seeks to educate the young men in the duties and privileges of American citizenship, and it is a program of training in the practical specifics of government and in the machinery of American politics.
Lindsay and Stevenson are sponsored by American Legion Post 41 in Demopolis.
