CollegeCounts granting over $1 million in scholarship

CollegeCounts — Alabama’s 529 college savings fund — is offering scholarship awards of $4,000 for four-year college enrollees and $2,000 for two-year college enrollees to eligible students pursuing higher education at institutions in Alabama. The CollegeCounts Scholarship eligibility details and online application is now open through Feb. 27, 2020 at Treasury.Alabama.gov/CollegeCounts-Scholarship.

The scholarship is designed to provide funding assistance to Alabama students who demonstrate a financial need and a genuine desire to make a difference in the future of our great state.

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria to be eligible for the scholarship: Be a high school senior or first-time college freshman beginning in fall 2020; Be a U.S. citizen; Be an Alabama resident; Planning to enroll in an Alabama eligible educational institution in fall 2020; Demonstrate financial need; Have a minimum GPA of 2.75; Have an ACT score of 26 or below; (applicants attending a two-year school will not be required to submit ACT scores)

These scholarships must to be applied to tuition, fees, books, supplies and equipment required for course load, including computers.

Funds can also be applied to on-campus room and board expense or off-campus housing if enrolled at least half-time and billed through the school.
