The Linden City Council donated $500 in support of Project Merry Christmas, a program hosted by Marengo County Department of Human Resources.
Originally benefiting foster children, Project Merry Christmas now supports hundreds of children and their families during the Christmas season based on their applications and income. Families will either be adopted by groups and individuals who are given their wish list or supported by DHR with donated toys or monetary vouchers.
At the last meeting, City Clerk Barbara Cannon was tasked with collecting data on each municipality that was awarded a City Block Development Grant and engineering firm and grant writers that each city uses. While that information was completed by the most recent meeting, it will not be discussed until the next meeting in January as not all councilors were present.
Mayor Charles Moore also informed the city council that a new, temporary employee will soon begin working in the Public Works Department under the Work-Based Learning Program for out-of-school youth aged 18-24 in need of skills or work experience. He will be paid through the 390-hour, federally funded program.
The city council also entered executive session followed by adjournment.
The Linden City Council meets every first and third Tuesday at city hall at 4:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend.
