The Fourth of July marks one of the most important days in United States history, and it has become a day of celebration for many because of it. The Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce has been busy making preparations for our local celebration, Freedom on the River.
Grab something to eat early as food vendors will populate the City Landing starting at 3 p.m. and children’s activities will begin at 5 p.m. with yard games and arts and crafts.
What better way to show your patriotism by celebrating with your children and your creativity?
The Children’s Patriotic Parade will take place at 7 p.m. and will feature three age groups all competing for prizes for best decoration, creativity and patriotic spirit. The age groups are birth – 4 years, 5 – 8 years and 9 – 12 years. The parade takes extra creativity to participate in as it only accepts non-motorized transportation like strollers, wagons or skateboards. Registration will open at 6:45 p.m.
The highlight of the event that literally lights up the night is the Freedom Fireworks Extravaganza. The stunning display that overlooks the Tombigbee River begins at 9 p.m. and marks the end of the Independence Day celebrations.
If Freedom on the River sounds amazing to attend, imagine being one of the volunteers that bring it to life. Thirty-minute shifts for children’s games and arts and crafts are available by calling the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce Office at 334-289-0270.
The Demopolis City Landing is located on Commissioners Street parallel to the Tombigbee River. So make plans to bring your family in celebrating our nation’s independence with neighbors and friends at Freedom on River.
