NWS issues flood warning for Demopolis, Gainesville dams

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has issued a flood warning for the Tombigbee River At the Gainesville Lock and Dam and the Tombigbee River at the Demopolis Lock and Dam. The warnings affect Marengo, Hale, Sumter and Greene counties.
Forecasted rainfall during the next 48 hours is expected to send the Tombigbee River into minor flood.
Drivers should not attempt to cross flooded areas.
The flood warning for the Tombigbee River At Demopolis Lock and Dam is from late Sunday night until further notice or until the warning is cancelled. Minor flooding is forecast.
At 8:15 a.m. on Friday, the stage was 45.4 feet. Flood stage is 68 feet.
The forecast calls for the stage to rise above flood stage by early Monday morning and continue to rise to near 74.2 feet by Wednesday morning. Additional rises are possible thereafter.
At 68 feet, flooding of lowlands in the area occurs and cattle should be moved to higher ground.
