James Thomas “Jimmy” Pope Jr. of Linden died Jan. 27, 2019 at his home.

Jimmy was born Nov. 11, 1950 in Selma. He was a retired owner of Saltwell Grocery and a member of Linden United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Linden City Council, District 3.

He is survived by his wife, Denise Perry Pope of Linden; son, Christopher Jason Pope (Kellie) of Auburn, Alabama; daughter, Carrie Elizabeth Pope (fiancé, Mike Carr) of Cedar Hill, Tennessee; sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Vice Cargile (Drew) of Gallion; three grandchildren; and two nieces.

Visitation will be held at Linden United Methodist Church on Thursday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. service time with Rev. Tony Antonelli and Kelly Etheridge officiating. Burial will follow at Linden Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers will be: Coleman Carlton, Kelly Etheridge, Larry Etheridge, David Gaddy, Barry Hunt, James Jones, and Cleveland Wright.

Honorary Pallbearers will include: the City of Linden Council members and employees, James D. Pierce, and the Linden High School Class of 1969.
