Portia Ann Thomas

Portia Ann Thomas, 86, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Hospice of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Ann was born Nov. 28, 1930. She graduated from Tuscaloosa County High School and Druid City Hospital School of Nursing.  Ann was a registered nurse for many years, serving in many capacities at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa; Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois; Hale County Hospital in Greensboro; and Bryan W. Whitfield Memorial Hospital in Demopolis.

Ann was a member of Canal Heights Church of Christ in Demopolis where she served faithfully for many years with her husband, Jimmy. Following Jimmy’s death Ann attended Greensboro Church of Christ as long as her health allowed.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband, James (Jimmy) Richard Thomas; her parents, Zebedee and Claudie Baker Utley; brothers, Homer Utley, Sidney Utley, Doyle Utley, and Bernard Utley; sisters, Alma Nellie Geddie, Janice Brockley, Elsie Powell Barker, and Florence Maples.

Survivors include her children, Sanet Jennings (Duke) of Jonesboro, Arkansas; John Richard Kuykendall (LaRita) of Nashville, Tennessee; Margo Lynn Kuykendall Moore of Northport, Alabama; and Kenneth Paul Kuykendall; grandchildren, Kristie Nichelle Holland of Nashville; Ashley Dawn Scroggins and Heather Bree Scroggins of Jonesboro; James Kuykendall, Audra Rosenbury, John Kuykendall, all of Nashville; Robert Adam Moore, Joshua Aaron Moore, and Micah Austin Moore, all of Northport; several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 13, 6-8 p.m. at Kirk Funeral Home in Greensboro and graveside service will be Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Greensboro with pastor Jeremy Smith officiating.

Honorary pallbearers will be elders and deacons of Greensboro Church of Christ and Canal Heights Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of West Alabama, 3851 Loop Road, Tuscaloosa, AL 35404, or Greensboro Church of Christ.

Special thanks to Lorenzo and Darlene Long, Darlene’s sister Georgia and other family members, who provided in-home care for the last year. Also special thanks to Michael Plummer and Derrick (Cupp) Paige who assisted with lawn care and maintenance of the home. And very special thanks to Mary Love Collins who served the family faithfully for many years.
