David E. “Gene” Shirley

David E. “Gene” Shirley, 75, a truck driver of Demopolis, died August 5, 2017 at DCH Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Shirley was born Feb. 6, 1942 in Selma to Ford and Louise Shirley. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Demopolis and was an avid University of Alabama fan and Nascar fan.
He is survived by five step-children, Harold (Colleen) Yoder, Deborah (Foy) Wright, Tom (Monelle) Clifton, Pat Puckett, and Vicki Andrews; nine grandchildren, Herron Yoder, C.J. Davis, Brooke (Jason) Turberville, Michael Clifton, Tom (Cara) Puckett, Chris (Michelle) Puckett, Scott (Tonya) Puckett, Crystal (C.W.) Woodward, and Jay (Lisa) Andrews; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ford and Louise Shirley; two wives, Helen Goings Shirley and Sara Vaughan Shirley; and a grandchild, John Puckett.
Graveside funeral services will be held at Demopolis Memorial Gardens on Friday, August 11, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Carl Williams officiating.
Active Pallbearers will be C. J. Davis, Jason Turberville, Will Turberville, Jeremy Vaughan, Todd Vaughan, and Chad Wideman.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Demopolis City School Foundation.
