Browder, Russell recognized by BOE

The Demopolis City School System selected Susan Browder, sixth grade math teacher at Demopolis Middle School, and Jay Russell, English teacher at Demopolis High School as the system’s Teachers of the Year.
Mrs. Browder earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of West Alabama and is a National Board Certified teacher.
Mr. Russell, who teaches 10th and 11th grade English as well as a Creative Writing elective class, also earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of West Alabama.
“Both Mrs. Browder and Mr. Russell are great assets to a great school system,” said Demopolis City Schools Superintendent Kyle Kallhoff. “Not only are they exceptional educators, they are very involved in the Demopolis community. It is important for students and parents to see the leaders of our school system immersed in this great city. On behalf of the board of education, we are honored for Mrs. Browder and Mr. Russell to represent the Demopolis City School System as teachers of the year.”
Both honorees will now apply for the District 3 Teacher of the Year honors. State-wide applications are due by Jan. 31, 2017 and 16 finalists will be named in the spring.
