Tigers cruise past region foe Calera

The Demopolis Tigers hit the road to take on an undefeated Calera team Friday night, and while it was tied through one half, the Tigers pulled away in the third on their way to a big region win, 38-13.
DHS used its sturdy running attack to put up 366 rushing yards to Calera’s 88. In total, Demopolis put up 377 total yards to Calera’s 144.
Leading the way for the Tigers was quarterback Logan McVay who rushed 15 times for 124 yards and two touchdowns. Two other runners also broke the 100-yard mark. A.J. Jackson rushed for a total of 101 yards and a touchdown while A.J. Besteder added another 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
On defense, R.J. Cox came away with four solo tackles and five assists. Russ Logan had a great night with two solo tackles, three assists, an interception and a deflected pass. Khyrim Bryant played strong defense with two solo tackles, four assists while also recovering a fumble and causing another.
Demopolis will have a bye week before returning home on Sept. 30 to take on Dallas County.
