Before you know it, the holiday season will be here and the Demopolis Area Chamber of Commerce is already working toward this year’s Christmas on the River, which is celebrating its 45th anniversary, by offering a new way for the community to be involved.
The chamber is offering “Camp Christmas on the River” from July 18 through 22, 9 a.m. to noon daily, to give more people access to see what happens behind the scenes of the city’s biggest annual tradition.
“In honor of this year’s special anniversary, we wanted to offer an opportunity for the community to see some of the magic of this enormous event. Camp COTR will be a fun-filled week-long camp that provides hands-on opportunities to build and design projects for this year’s event,” said DACC Director Ashley Coplin.
While the camp is open to adults and civic organizations, Coplin said it would be a great opportunity for students.
“The camp is open to adults and civic organizations looking for volunteer opportunities to express their creative side. Also, it will be the ultimate camp for students who are interested in architecture, art, design, hospitality, construction, and so much more,” she said.
Water and snacks will be provided each day and is open to everyone ages 12 and up. Students who participate will be eligible for community service diploma credit.
Last year, an estimated 40,000 people attended Christmas on the River and organizers hope for even bigger crowds for the 45th anniversary this year.
