The Demopolis Tigers went into the second round of the state playoffs facing a tough test in Vigor High School. With versatile athletes on offense, including senior quarterback Brandon Rogers, Vigor had the tools to make it a tough night for Demopolis fans. But, the Tigers leaned on its running game and defense, limiting Vigor’s opportunities and ultimately securing the victory with an interception returned for a touchdown late in the game.
Demopolis hit the Vigor defense hard with its bruising runningbacks over the course of the game, picking up a total of 317 rushing yards. The Tigers attempted only two passes. Jay Craig led the charge for the Tigers, picking up 168 yards on 28 carries and scoring two touchdowns. Keishaun Scott added 60 yards on 12 carries.
R.J. Cox and Rahmeel Cook both had great nights on defense. Cox had three tackles, three assists and a sack while Cook added two tackles, four assists and a sack. It was a play in the secondary that put the game away when Demetrius Davis picked off a pass late in the game and returned it for a score to deny Vigor the opportunity to comeback, and making the final score 28-17.
